Shout Out Sunday No. 5 – “Yorkshire Life”

The Sunday Shout-Out web site for today, 02 February 2014 is:

YORKSHIRE LIFE magazine

I know I am probably taking a chance here because not everyone is in love with Yorkshire, England, the way we are in love with it. However, I am going on the assumption that anyone who is not in love with that magical place just hasn’t spent enough time there yet, and if said person were to get the chance to roam around in Yorkshire for a bit, I feel a love affair would ensue.

Anyway, it’s my choice for today, so take it or leave it; I hope you take it.

In this lovely on-line edition of the magazine known as Yorkshire Life, you can read wonderfully written articles about so many areas of life in that northern English county – the largest county in England (or is it in Great Britain??) – see brown county – Yorkshire – below.

You can learn how to make the perfect Yorkshire pudding (video), you can read about Prett Tejura, the founder of Curry Cuisine in Yorkshire on cooking wonderful spicy meals at home, you can learn about six of the best healthy snacks from Yorkshire, or you can visit The Gallery with Sandie Nicholson who is a photographer who lives in Holmfirth and is inspired by the surrounding Pennine landscape.

I could go on and on, but you can see for yourself, just click the link and be transported away to

Since we, here in the U.S. are having a Super Bowl Sunday today – at least those who are football fans (not sure I can consider myself one, but I might peek in at the game later tonight), I had originally thought of posting a Super Bowl-related Shout Out web page, but I didn’t have much luck finding something everyone might like, and even I wasn’t that enthused, so when in doubt, as I always say, go to Yorkshire!

One more recommendation I have for you is the article on “Georgia Wilkinson – My Yorkshire Weekend.

Georgia, as you will see, is an artist and fabric designer, and if you click on the link above and nose down thru the links there, you will find some great pages of hers. She has a blog and also has a wonderful web site herself called Jorja Wilkinson Design. In there you will find samples of her fabulous fabrics – yes, they are a bit pricey, but I was tempted… she even has a fabric with lobsters on it… oh be still my heart.

Wow! I love this! Click for more…

So that’s it from here. Have fun. Drive safely. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t eat too many wild and crazy munchies tonight – or you’ll pay for it in the morning! (Shoot, I sound like my mother!!!) Just go have fun why dontcha!

Cheers,

Bex

Hi Bex, thanks for your link to Yorkshire, a magical place IMHO. It brought back so many happy memories of my 3 visits there, and then to a dozen videos of how to make perfect Yorkshire puddings. I used to make them effortlessly but then lost my knack. Thankfully my son inherited the talent.

Anna – I know! Wasn’t the fabric gorgeous? But not so much the price. If you wanted to make a pillow, yeah, maybe… but still WAY too high for most people.

I didn’t think you had anything for me here today, Bex, I mean, as a Brit I’m not averse to Yorkshire but I’m not passionate about it either, it’s just a county to me. Then I came to the fabrics link – wowser! Amazing! Ha – then I saw the price: 46 a metre!!??? Not for the likes of us then. Happy Sunday xxx

Mz. Em – you mentioned the Viking Festival – you might like this Flickr album then: Jorvik Viking Centre.

In the City of York, there is the Jorvik Viking Museum. Paul and I have been to it twice and loved it. Click Here for their web site. I think you’ll like it in there.

My mom was so worried about me going to meet you for real rather than on computer…she didn’t know for sure if I would come back alive.
As it is we became true friends till the end, which I hope is a long ways off.
I still enjoy looking back at the photos of us..
One fun thing was going to boot sales..I came home with so much stuff and still have it all..another fun day was at Whitby….on and on I could go with fun times…only down day was when we had to leave it all behind.

My pleasure, Sandy! Yes, I am grateful also to YOU for agreeing to come all the way here and THEN to fly across the pond with us that year – never having actually met in person, to boot! We took a chance, and it paid off. We are friends for life and will have our Yorkshire adventure to always remember.

You will never regret it if you take the plunge, Tom! I am biased toward The North but all of Great Britain has miles and miles of wonderment and beauty – it would be a trip to remember, for sure.
