Facebook

Just in case anyone is wondering, I have deactivated my account at FaceBook. For the time being anyway. I have the feeling that some of my recent computer problems stem from that place.

Bex

I think I could turn and live awhile with the animals…

They are so placid and self-contained,

I stand and look at them sometimes half the day long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,

They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,

They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,

Not one is dissatisfied… not one is demented with the mania of owning things,

Not one kneels to another nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago,

Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth.

You have ads on Nina’s site, Bex? I have no ads on Nina’s site. Zero. Zilch. None. All there is on Nina’s site are links to her various articles and pictures that she’s taken.

If you’re getting ads on Nina’s site then I’d say you have malware on your computer that is causing the problem.

That’s probably also why your computer runs so slowly. Avast never slows me down. Never.

The thing with Facebook is to stay away from most of the games and apps. I’ve only tried, I think, 2 games from FB and never bought into any of them. The only apps I’ve ever used are ones that look only at my Profile and Friends list. I never accept anything that asks to make changes or post for me.

BTW, I have tried IE, Moz. Firefox, and now GoogleChrome… I am not impressed with any of those browsers. Does anyone know of another good browser that is free and easy to use?

Teri wrote this in my last entry’s comments:
“I guess I never thought about it but I never get any of these things anymore. I’m guessing it’s because I run Avast as my anti-virus program? (Avast is free.)”

I have Avast installed on my desktop computer upstairs. That is an old thing, Windows XP… I was thinking of ditching the whole thing but then when I recently reorganized and cleaned out my room, and I had to disconnect all the wires (eeek!) for the computer etc., I went ahead and got rid of the useless Windows Security Essentials which had stopped working for over a year or two, and installed AVAST on it. It does seem like a really good antivirus BUT it makes my computer so slow – I only use it for early morning emails to my best friend but with that AVAST running… it takes me 15-20 minutes before I can actually read any emails or send any. I just sit there each morning waiting waiting waiting for it to get going.

Does YOUR computer slow way down using AVAST? I was thinking of changing over to that here on my laptop too but if it’s going to slow it down to a snail’s pace, no thanks.

I doubt it will go away as all the big sites are using this “what I call” criminal spyware and tactics. It will be the downfall of the internet, IMO. Greed and nastiness and evil people. They will ruin it all for everyone else and it’s already started. And most of us are so hooked up online and are addicted to it all, it is going to be very hard to EVER live life again in a normal fashion, off-line. I think man/womankind has gotten way ahead of him/herself in this matter and as good as a world wide web COULD be, it’s gotten way out of control.
